Discussion 3: Matilda

Matilda

Matilda is a fictional children's novel by the British writer Roald Dahl, which was published in 1998 by Jonathan Cape in London. This novel speaks of a young clever girl named named Matilda, who lives with her ignorant, mean parents and her brother. She loves reading, unlike her family who thinks that reading is a waste of time. She taught herself how to read by reading any written material in her house. When she ran out of things to read in her home she went to her father and asked him to buy her a book to read, but her father refused and thought Matilda was being ridiculous to want a book when they have the best television in the house.

I would have felt less important that what I want doesn't matter in my family, that I don't belong in this family, because i am the only one who likes books and all of my family members prioritise money while I find reading interesting and school.

It was hard for Matilda, but she was used to her family's attitude towards her. If I was Matilda and that had happened to me, I don't know what I would have really done. I would have watched educational programmes on the television all day this would have been better, I would learn new things daily.

The unmentioned might of a woman

This article is written from the man's point of view. The author of this article is expressing the qualities of a women that men do not have, or show. How he sees the influence of a woman in a man's life that most men do not actually recognise or are not aware of.

It talks about how a woman always supports a man to stand on his own. How her help is the one keeping a man on his feet not because she got nothing else to do, but because she can do both. The woman's ability to influence men's actions without him realising. The abilities and attitudes reflected in the article give a picture that a woman in a relationships is a man's supporter, that she helps to uplift man. That a woman is the one keeping sanity and order of what the man decides in the relationship, and a woman makes minor decisions promoting a man and giving man better display.

I agree with the writer's portrayal of men because speaks the honest reality in the universe. That men expect all the emotional support from women because it is believed that men cannot control their own emotional abilities and they need their "emotional organisers as women". Men are seen as 'the head of the house' and women as the neck in the society. Meaning men decides what a woman should do, like the head instruct the neck where to turn the head for better view
If a woman confronts a man it is considered a disrespect because she is expected to support whatever men presents not go against it or negotiate on it, she takes it as it is and make it amazing in men's eyes, because they have that ability to make presentable things, they are believed to like neatness and order.

Yes, I find it effective, because it gives clear images of the writers thoughts. The way the writer describes the woman's abilities it gives clear understanding. It is like the writer is a man telling his woman about the great things she does for him that she appreciates and thinks they are the things that make a woman and should be celebrated.
The writer's view of women's abilities that men appreciate and the understanding of women power are clearly described and expressed.

Unit 1.2: 20 August 2016

Service Learning is the process whereby students apply the contents learned in class to the community to help meet the identified need, to bring about the positive change, while at the same time students gain more and clearer understanding of the contents learned in class by reflecting on the service activity experienced, also to gain a broader appreciation of the discipline and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility.

In service learning i have come to an understanding that we learn more about the contents when we get involved and experience the explained theories. We get to even have our own interpretations of the contents in because we understand better. As an education student going to schools and experiencing learners and their overall behavior in class, stimulates the thoughts of how am I going to handle the similar situations when I am in practice. In this way I get to know whether I am able or not, and find possible solutions and also help from others. It builds the needed confidence in one's career, that they can be able to supply whatever it is required of them in the practice of what they are studying for.

Weblogs as an emerging genre in higher education.

A weblog is defined by Merriam Webster as a website that contains online personal reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer.

The potential of Weblogs to emphasize active student participation and collaboration raises great expectations for a new pedagogical quality in higher education, irma-international. Weblog is essential to students in the higher education because blogs provide students with information. Proper formal language is the one mainly used in blogs to stimulate students proper language usage. It promotes critical and independent thinking, as well as critical analysis, as they are required to read and reflect on whatever they have read. It provides students with relevant environment to their careers.
It enables students to express their own understanding of information they have read, and be criticized. When they write on their blogs they create their own interpretation, and opinion of the researched internet information.
On a personal level I think weblogs are the formal way of sharing information. They are not destructive they do not have many graphics, because the main focus is sharing of information. I never use them in informal contexts, i use them only for academic purposes when requested like this one of EFP. Students are equipped with technology and Internet access, but ‘only a minority of the students (around 21%) were engaged in creating their own content and multimedia for the Web’ (Bennett et al, 2008: 778), M Andergassen - ‎2009.

They are very informative in that you will find many people's personal interpretations of certain researches which might broaden your own understanding.

It is not easy to find blogs to follow in blogs. I think it is because following other bloggers is the least priority, but it will be easier if we get suggested blogs based on the similarities of the discussions we have on our own blogs. In this way students will get more motivated to read and research further on the topic in hand.
