My
final school year at Seruane Secondary School, Mpumalanga.
Seruane secondary school is situated in the
Dr J.S Moroka Municipality, Nkangala Region, Marapyane circuit at Lefisoane
village. The place is a bit rural still developing. It is considered to be the
good school in the area. The school environment is calm, it has its own
problems, it’s not perfect but it’s a good school, because my parents trusted
the school to educate me, so knowing my parents I think it’s safe to say it’s a
good school. This is my final year school, Seruane Secondary School.
The school went from secondary to middle
school for three years and back to secondary school on the third year, it was
decided for the school to become a middle school in order to neutralize the
malfunctioning school in the neighborhood. Where there was a lot of violence
from the learners, but parents refused saying that their well-behaved children
will be spoiled, as they believe that bad behavior is stronger than the good
one. The department eventually agreed and returned the Seruane into a secondary
school again, as the other school was becoming crowded as well.
My name is Fromencia Mmabjala Machaka. I have
matriculated in the year 2014, and what a year it was at Seruane Secondary
School. I was in a science class doing seven subjects; Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical sciences, Geography, Life Orientation, Setswana HL and English FAL.
It was
a good pressured year. The second matric class after the return of the school
to a secondary school. The class of 2013 had done exceptional being number one
in the circuit. They were the seriously tidy up to standard class, and we were
the care free, playful ones but we did our school work as required.
The school body was very worried about our
matric results because we were not as disciplined and focused as the class of
2013. They always like ALWAYS gave
us the motivation talks whenever they had a chance in every lesson. It was fun
and very helpful obviously. They always told us how we acted inappropriately
like we were not the cream of the school
they used to say.
Loved
my Geography teacher, still do, she was the best
ever. No. She is the best ever. We all loved her lessons. We knew
it always ended up with some life tips on how to cope at school. She even told
us about varsity life motivating us to strive to get there to not only smell
but taste it, and to know when it’s too much.
My class mates? OH MY GOD! The best family
anyone could ever ask for. We were like brothers and sisters. We helped each
other on everything. Personal, academically, anything you needed help on we
were always there we talked like the forever best friends from the same womb.
My mother liked to pop up at school to check up on me once in a while because
for some reason she believed I was this shy naïve girl. The truth is I liked to
be quiet at home, stay at home all the time and not go out. She was glad to believe
that I was at home up to no mischiefs, but I think worried that I might not be
a social person.
At school, with my peers was my comfort zone.
It was the place for me to go wild. The side I did not want my mother to know
about, because she would be so devastated knowing what I was up to with my
peers, and the lecture will go on my whole living time. I so had two lives or
personalities. One for my home and one at school.
I had friends living far from my home so I
can use the distance as an excuse not to visit frequently, because I loved
being at home. Once I go in I did not want to go out, and my mother did not
like the idea that I had guy friends.
There was not much technology used. We had
computers our library that were used, but was not taught as a subject. There
was poor internet at the library. The only secure internet was the one at the
staff rooms/offices. We as student requested to use the fax, emails and all
sorts of internet related activities, so that they can assist. We had no
educator for technology related subject, so we did not learn about computers.
We did our practical using some of the educator’s computers, as they had secure
internet.
…and
yes, I was the tallest of them all. Well still am I.
The class of 2014 at Seruane Secondary School
was such a small number, because we were the second metrics after the
exchanges. The class of 2013 has all passed, and we were only less than 40
candidates. We were like a one big family. So much love flew among us.
I guess they really loved us at school. They
arranged a surprise party for us at the day of our last paper. What an amazing emotional
day it was. The educators telling us the truth of how much they love and
appreciate us. We really loved them they were our parents.
